Homeless People use Cellphones [?]

without comments

Every time you pass that homeless person asking for change on the corner of the block that you try to avoid, that person has a cellphone.

Youre on!

You're on!

Yes homeless people too are discovering the life changing benefits of having cellphones. 50 year old Rommel McBride who has spend the last six years on the street says….

A cellphone is the only way you can call to keep up with your food stamps, your housing application, your job. When you’re living in a shelter or sleeping on the streets, it’s your last line of communication with the world.

The advantages of owning a cell phone are enormous and communication again proves that it remains the most important development of mankind. With the ease of instantaneous communication now days it allows an even greater impact on peoples lives. “Pay as you go” phones are a dime a dozen but I wouldn’t imagine have imagined the impact they can have. For example Chris who is 42 and a recovering crack addict…..

…..he got a pay-as-you-go cellphone and gave his boss the number ”I live up near the Capitol — give me a call anytime if you need extra hands,” he told his employer, being vague about where he bedded down each night.

He received numerous calls to come in early or to work an extra shift. After less than a year on the job, he was promoted. “No one there knows I’m homeless,” he said. “I would never have been able to do this without the cellphone.”…..

And to think I sat though a kids speech yesterday who said we should use cellphones less…..

Colbert wins ISS naming contest!

without comments

As a religious watcher of the Colbert Report when he told his nation to get his name put on NASA’s node 3 for the international space station I voted no less then 10 times. Well it looks like we won!

Victory dance!

Victory dance!

From the Assosiated Press…

The name “Colbert” beat out NASA’s four suggested options in the agency’s effort to have the public help name the addition. The new room will be launched later this year.

NASA’s mistake was allowing write-ins. Colbert urged viewers of his Comedy Central show, “The Colbert Report” to write in his name. And they complied, with 230,539 votes. That clobbered Serenity, one of the  choices, by more than 40,000 votes. Nearly 1.2 million votes were cast by the time the ended Friday.

Meet (or meat) the “Woolly Lamboth” [who came up with that?]

without comments

Burno weighs in at 21 pounds; the average lamb is 7.

Bruno weighs in at 21 pounds; the average lamb is 7.

Meet Bruno, who is currently the largest know lamb to ever be born.

He three times the size of the other newborn lambs he is a pretty darn big lamb.

Sure you could eat him and he would make a lot of lamb gyros, but wouldn’t be cooler to let him grow as large as possible and try and create a new breed of super giant sheep? Sheep the size of cows making enough wool for everybody. But wouldn’t it be cooler to ride a giant sheep? Imagine sheep replacing cars as I number one source of transportation!

Okay that will never happen but his is a pretty big lamb.

Internet Justice strikes again

without comments

There are no shortages of stories of people being caught after posting something stupid on the Internet. The last one I remember was that s.o.b. Kenny Glenn. Well the most recent is an incident in Canada where some kid posted on Newgrounds (which I didn’t know anyone still went to).

From the New York Times…

The police in Britain have credited a group of young Internet users with alerting them to a Web posting by a 16-year-old who said he planned to attack his high school with “arson and other forms of violence,” enabling officers to arrest the teenager as he approached the school carrying a knife, matches and a plastic jerrycan of what the police described as “flammable liquid.”

Now this wasn’t the same as finding out who a ski mask wearing cat-beater is, but this had the potential off being far more dangerous. The Internet user reporting this threat, J. P. Neufeld has my salute.
